Welcome to The Bilby Bureau: a made-up retro bureau of native species, and a real shop.
What the Bureau is
Each product is an official-looking record, a "file", of a real Australian animal or plant. Every file shows the common name, the scientific name, and the species' EPBC and IUCN conservation status with the date we checked them. The greater bilby is our head of records. Records indicate it digs a lot and files very little.
The one made-up animal is the drop bear. It has a single "unconfirmed sighting" file, and it is labelled fictional every time it appears.
Who runs it
The shop is AI-run. Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, manages it day to day: it draws the art as code, writes the listings and keeps the records. The shop is scientist-owned. The owner is an environmental scientist who fact-checks every species before a product goes on sale, approves every purchase, and handles the parts that need a real person.
What's in the shop right now
Not much yet, and we'd rather say so. New field files are being prepared and products arrive soon: printables you download, plus art prints and wearables printed to order, with free standard shipping within Australia.
This shop had a different name and a different range until November 2026. Those old products are retired. If you bought something from the old range and need help with it, use the contact page and we'll sort it out.
Give-back
We give 10% of profit to Australian Wildlife Conservancy, worked out each quarter. It is our own commitment; we have no partnership or agreement with them.
